cue the fitzpatrick incident

constable fitzpatrick came along
and decided to do my family wrong

and n0body is sure what happened next that day
but then they came and took my mother away

and everybody knew the kelly gang was the best

you gotta lift your game if you’re an outlaw, so
we started robbing banks and putting on a floorshow
the word was spreading and we were surprised
people lining up to be hostagised
we were flexing on the law, driving ’em crazy
and hopping in the ute when we’re feeling lazy

we were winning every battle, we were winning the war
when from out of nowhere came a knock at the door

who’s there?
it’s superintendent frances hare

he was a man with a plan, he was ready to launch
and then the government gave him carte blaunche
he was locking people up just for knowing our name
and if they complained, he said we were to blame
and suddenly the kelly gang lost their appeal
hard to find a meal
the struggle was real
we were caught in a trap and the noose was tightening
couldn’t find a way to get loose, it was frightening
they always seemed to be two moves ahead
it must’ve been a spy, we were seeing red
and so we found that spy and we shot him, dead
but there were four coppers hiding under the bed

was gonna hit the fan
we
were gonna need a plan
gonna have to big, gonna have to be grand
the kelly gang was gonna make a final stand

so we hostagised the glenrowan hotel
ripped the train tracks up to send the coppers to h~ll
and we’d capture the ones lucky enough to survive
but sadly for us, the train didn’t arrive
hours went by, something didn’t feel right
and this whole situation could go on through the night

and now the hostages were not as happy as they could be
had a chat to heart~byrne, thinking maybe should we
chuck on some bangers, have ourselves a little dance
and a mini olympics? give everyone a chance
to win some medals in a range of sports
then we let the teacher go ’cause he was feeling out of sorts

the danger was growin’
we had no way of knowin’
when the train was goin’
to arrive in glenrowan

we had a lot of plans and we’d never failed
but our plan to crash the train was about to be derailed
’cause the teacher betrayed us with a lantern and a scarf
and when they got off the train, the coppers had to have a laugh
’cause this was supposed to be our ultimate plan
but somehow they had ended up getting the upper hand
and in the middle of a medal ceremony
we looked out the window and what did we see?
it was an ambush, in the d~mn bush
we’re on the edge of destruction, they want to give us a push

we need to stay calm
we need a lucky charm
to keep us safe from harm
we’ll wear a suit of armor
d~mn, this will raise the roof
suddenly the kelly gang is bulletproof
and lucky we were, and i’ll tell you why
’cause the coppers let fifteen thousand bullets fly

for the next seven hours, they weren’t mucking about
their only motivation was wiping us out
then they ordered a canon, sick of playing these games
but they didn’t need a canon, they just needed some flames
set fire to it all, burn it down to the ground
and in the hotel the unmistakable sound
snap, crackle, pop, it was almost ethereal
the sound of fire on combustible material

looking around at the carnage before me
wondering what my mother would say if she saw me
she’d say that this is not the way i wanna end my story
wouldn’t i prefer to go out in a blaze of glory?

so up i get, and out i go
it’s time for closing night of the nedward show
i got my guns at the ready to take my shot
and i’m dressed in my armor like lancelot
and to finish it off, with a touch of panache
under my armor is my green silk sash

so i start shooting at them and they are shooting back
all of us involved are into all~out attack
but my armor is good, their bullets can’t get through
then sergeant steele shows ’em what to do
he just aims for the legs with bullets one, two, three
one bullet for joe byrne and two bullets for me
