last birthday is truly the anchor of this era and we purposefully waited ’til now to put it out into the world, umm. we knew that this song kind of tied up the emotion and the intent of kind of this chapter of our lives as humans and being in a band and, umm. we wrote it in november 2019 at our airbnb with the amazing creative force spirit, super~human g~nius, her name is ashe. umm, she just came over, she brought some cookies, we drank some wine, and we just kind of~~i remember the first, probably hour we watched umm, like youtube compilations of when harry met sally. there’s that scene at the end where the, like, the old couples are talking about how they met and initial, like, reactions and how their love has grown and blossomed, and we just became obsessed with talking about the idea of unconditional love and being there for someone no matter what. umm, whether it’s life or death, and a few days before actually cara showed us the movie thelma and louise which already kinda had us taken back and thinking about that, and this song really is like what this band is to us, umm. you know, we can’t imagine doing anything else and that obsession with unconditional love i think comes with so much, umm, kind of emotional baggage but also it’s, it’s a really beautiful thing when you step back and realize, like, this is my existence and this is what i’m meant to be doing, and in a way i think this song is also us, like, speaking to ourselves, and it’s also us speaking to our fans and people around the world who have connected with our music. i think, you know, we’re not gonna be here forever, there’s a, there’s a point where we’re all gonna be underground, and i think that there’s so much, like, comfort in the thought that, like, our music and these songs will live on forever and we’ll be with people even when we’re dead, whether it’s at the airport or after a sh~tty date or at the baggage claim, like it’s, it’s all gonna be there still in a way, and the spirit is, is really the songs, so we’re really thankful this one just popped out of the universe and, uh, we like to say the best ones kind of fall out of the sky or come to you from the universe and that’s, umm, that’s a really special thing and it happened to happen in that day, and we’re really grateful it did
