he got arrestеd six years til his release
but while in prison, came a chance to read
and a look within to find a new belief
that black unity must increase
he joined the nation of islam upon his release

became a teacher, thinker, debater, and scholar
worked hard for the cause and the fight for black conscious
with one hand movement he could stop a riot
taught us to have pride in being black
and that history’s full of lies, not the facts
taught us to make it happen and not react
and until we mentally free to not relax
they bombed his house that still didn’t stop him

because he pointed out the flaws of a nation
he traveled city to city opening mosques
teaching self~respect and how to survive
he would never let the wool be pulled over his eyes
broke ties with n.o.i after making his hajj
he knew to end oppression was the solution
by any means meant it take revolution
no more sit~ins we stand up shooting
to the tunes of self~improvement
malcolm knew this and practiced discipline
he fought for the movement and understood differences
