of that time when, in my car, that thunder cracked behind me. woke up
screaming in the hospital, wondering how i got there and if anyone would find me
had a clear view in my rearview of that fishtailing car

then shattered gl-ss flying. the console and p-ssenger seat’s
pinning me to the driver’s door. i was sure i was dying. light
flashed before my eyes. no time for crying or remorse
or thoughts. went to my loved ones. i knew there was
reciprocation. i felt no pain. my eyelids were heavy
void of trepidation, and i just let go
and let god. so whenever the rain comes down, i look up
and i smile so i may feel heaven’s waters graze my body
and cleanse my soul. no longer do i say, “rain, go away”
i am happy, for rain brings nourishment to live another day
