ok, so we’re diving deep today into xenxei’s new ep, shepherd (shepherd), right? yeah
and we got some pretty interesting source material to work with here. yeah, we do
we’ve got some pre release hype talking about how special this ep is gonna be
and we also have 3 tracks that have already dropped, right design, white t and deny
i’m really liking what i’m hearing so far. yeah, me too, they’re very interesting and different from each other
yeah, and i think that’s what’s really catching my attention about this ep
you know how different these first 3 tracks sound from one another
so alright, let’s get into the sounds and themes of shepherd. let’s do it and see if we can figure out what xenxei is going for here
it’s a bold statement right off the bat
it really makes you want to, it kicks your interest
yeah, exactly, for sure
now, you mentioned you’d already given deny a listen, the third track, yeah, that one really stood out
so what was it about that song? musically or lyrically?
oh, lyrically, well, it was the contrast that got me oh, interesting
the music itself, almost hypnotic, you know? yeah
with those ambient textures and almost like whispered vocals but then the lyrics start. man. oh. almost confrontational. wow
but before we go too far, sure we gotta talk about mark 10:34~35 yeah yeah
it talks about jesus predicting his suffering and death
and the idea that being a disciple is a tough path
it’s a hard road
what do you make of xenxei referencing this? well, i think it’s intentional you do? oh yeah, totally
like he’s signalling that, shepherd, this isn’t just, you know, easy listening, right? he’s preparing us for something challenging, something that might even feel like a sacrifice to listen to
yeah. in a way, like he’s saying, if you choose to follow this musical journey, ok
be ready to confront difficult emotions, wrestle with uncomfortable ideas. it definitely adds a layer of (for sure) seriousness to the whole thing, right? absolutely
ok, so yeah, we go from this like introspective mood of deny to fallen track 4
which you described as chaotic. chaotic. yeah. what was it about the music? what gave me that? for me, it was those sudden shifts in tempo, you know. right. and the way he uses those distorted, almost industrial sounds, they’re jarring. oh, ok. unsettling. interesting.it’s now time to listen to the next track fallen
