lirik lagu uoenoah - the curious case of 2015
if you thought 2014 was an underwhelming year in hip hop, you weren’t alone. there were some gems here and there, an album or two that some people consider to be a cl-ssic, but overall not what us rap fans would have hoped for. when these years happen we like to think that we can just rely on the next year to be better, yet we almost take comfort when we get another lackl-ster year. the truth is, we don’t know how to react to a truly good year. so far we’ve seen releases for the lyrical crowd with lupe fiasco’s tetsuo & youth, the old school crowd with joey bada$$’s b4.da.$$, the mainstream crowd with kid ink’s full speed. we got some great projects to back some of last years most popular singles like rae sremmurd’s sremmlife with their hit singles “no flex zone” and “no type”, big sean’s dark sky paradise with his hit single “i don’t f-ck with you”, and drake’s surprise retail mixtape if you’re reading this it’s too late with his loosie “6 god”. if this year continues to come with great releases that have something for everyone, we as fans of rap may ruin years to come, and simultaneously not appreciate the greatness that we are getting in the moment
if you frequently use the forums like i do, you will notice some pessimism about the state of hip hop. the majority of these people tend to stay off rap g*nius and gravitate towards youtube comment sections of eminem’s latest music video, as they can find a lot more simple minded people who will agree with them there. but this year may be the year that the youtube commenters and rap g*nius posters could actually agree on being good. almost everyone from both sides of the spectrum is excited about the unt-tled kendrick lamar album that should be coming soon, and at this point in his career kendrick is not too old to be hated by the hipsters. we also have an album from kanye west coming, and we already know that one of the hottest young rappers from chicago has an appearance on that lp. all in all you can never predict the future, and you can never even try to predict how people will react to art, especially when those people are hipsters. hey, if they decide kendrick is too mainstream for them, hopsin and his friends at funk volume are planning lots of releases for this year
