lirik lagu t. karras - xp (poem)
[intro]
experience, by taylor peter karras
[poem]
i was once a kid who didn’t know who he was
always questioning what i’m destined to be
had talents inside, did not realize
the disguise, thought it was truth, not lies
as i grew up, i heard the sound of the beats
imagined myself on the hardest of streets
was never one for enslavement, they call it entertainment
i experience derangement cause i’m locked up in detainment
i was never one for the suburbs, i wanted to be where it was
the action, the fun, the music, the opportunities
sounded a bit silly that i knew how to operate
but i’m stuck in the suburbs, just further away
i spent years learning how to hone my craft
i spent years learning how to convey through rap
as i learned more, i realized who i truly was
i was pushed out of the club and pulled into the life
it was relieving knowing there were people like me
an environment of emcees, beat makers and poet~laureates
living in areas that were similar to mine
only difference was, they developed their minds
i’ve only seen the mlk memorial and the compton building
inglewood courthouse and the la skyline
so it just blew my mind that all the culture was there
my main question was, why weren’t people aware?
why weren’t people aware of compton with a movie theater?
why weren’t people aware of inglewood near route 66?
why weren’t people aware of the cowboy version of watts?
why do people refer to riverside as the city where n.w.a moved to?
i’m aware, cause i lived in the inland empire
i’ve seen all the mission architecture in downtown riverside
i’ve seen all the wear and tear in san bernardino
i’ve gained experience through their hip~hop scene
and i’ve always given back to the scene which helped me regardless
helped me to grow as an emcee
helped me to grow as a person
helped me to grow as an artist
and helped me to be able to give back to the inland empire
all the hidden gems that people don’t dare to discover
all the hidden talent that people don’t dare to acknowledge
you think desert people ain’t suffer the same as city folk?
where do you think yg got his style from? victorville/san bernardino
vince staples has love for moreno valley
snoop dogg has a house in chino hills
and kendrick lamar owns a house in eastvale
so don’t talk to me unless you’ve stepped foot in swan lake and survived
don’t talk to me unless you’ve walked through san bernardino and stayed alive
don’t talk to me unless you’ve gotten respect from the ie superstars
and don’t talk to me unless you’ve survived a beatdown
i got experience. it doesn’t make me anything special
it gives me the advantage to understand
so spread this word to everyone
inland empire is here to stay, we’re not going away
