pinker: yes. the vast majority of parenting studies don’t do the elementary controls for genetics. some do, which i discuss in detail in the book, including violent behaviour. now there may be individual studies that fail to show it; there are also individual studies that do show it. the proper way to settle the question is to look at quantitative meta~~n~lyses, so that you can’t just cherry pick the studies that do or don’t show a correlation. the most recent meta~~n~lyses which oliver james doesn’t cite show that there is a heritable component to criminal behaviour
