lirik lagu raven quinn - origins
when humans are children, the veil that separates their world and the realms of the otherworld is thin. they’re capable of perceiving magic and innately recognize it
as part of the natural order. a human child doesn’t question it; they accept that the sun rises and sets, and that life is full of mysterious and wondrous things
as they grow and mature, human hearts and spirits harden. the struggle of their daily lives presents a constant friction, causing a “callous” of sorts to develop over
the delicate membrane that innately feels magic. and horrifically…tragically, the childlike ability to sense it, or to believe magic when they’re in its presence, is buried
deep beneath layers of metaphysical “skin”
a skin that has become far too thick in their adulthood
like the majority of my kind, i am fascinated by humanity; by the juxtaposition of their innate fragility and their surprising strength. their incredible capacity for love
and kindness. the depths of their hatred and depravity
we are in awe of the bittersweet brevity of their lives. how much more urgent, intense, and heartbreakingly beautiful must every emotion and every fleeting moment
feel for them? knowing they’re dying from the second they draw first breath…
most live less than a hundred years
might as well be a day
so, we’ve observed them over millennia with deep interest and curiosity. and every so often, our gaze falls upon a human wandering in the “in~between”. that is to
say, that they are not entirely of their world. for one reason or another, the callous that obstructs their ability to sense magic and the otherworld realms all around
them, never develops
they know that they feel and perceive in ways others don’t, yet cannot classify or articulate their experience ~ at least not without risk of being labeled mad by the
rest of their kin, all of whom lost their “sixth sense” (as they sometimes refer to it) long ago
and so, these particular humans are different. special. lonely. strange
generally outsiders
i have a weakness for these outsiders. a soft heart for those who i call “the othered” ~ who aren’t where they’re meant to be, but believe they have nowhere else to
go
i also have kingdoms and courts to fill; a masquerade ball to oversee. music is the sacred language of the fae and every being revels in its nightly celebration
most “othered” humans lack the courage to accept my proposal of their own free will and that is to be expected. how could they know the expanse of what i offer
them? how could they understand a sense of belonging when they’ve never had it? or the euphoria of dancing under the cold light of a blue moon, eternally in a
palace of nighttime beauty and mystery beyond their wildest imaginings?
how could they comprehend what it means to live forever?
a simple mortal life is such a small price to pay for an immortal eternity. they all come to know that… eventually
so i watch and i wait for the right moment. i’m patient. i have all the time in the world, after all
and i’m doing them a kindness, really
i’m doing you a kindness…
i’ve been waiting for you. i believe you are the final piece l’ve been searching for
so take my hand
welcome to the masquerade in the underground
