lirik lagu noyz - common thread

this is for the undocumented developing into doctors
fostered in the belly of h~ll until they prospered
for black and brown breaking borders and boxes
see the media with color commentary like costas
the demonized, scrutinized feed ‘em lies brutalize we decide we describe
see the sides, human eyes and hearing all the muted cries
view it through thе eyes wherе the freedom lies
utilize minds in the war that saw shifted and fought different
a cold world i’m frost bitten and caught slipping
need to watch for ice right when the dark thickens
the sparks fl!cker from hearts bigger than laws written
my thoughts shifting i see the losses of god given
through the carnage upon us all of its hard vision the scars digging the common thread is the pain from the same cloth with hope woven on in the cross stitching

seed of a fighter against all odds it gets brighter when the darkness is sparked by the lighter
border getting tighter
eyes closed and pulling all nighters
haven’t seen the sun so your brown skin lighter
in the eyes you so different
even if we on the same mission the difference is in the tradition
we travel to survive, this is not no expedition
so what we missing, huh?

f~~~ christopher columbus and the colonizers
travel the road less taken just to be providers
they can knock us down but not the pride inside us
so we overcame the hate, the fear, the buyers
till they tie us to these labels that be man made
but i ain’t going, i’m no d~mn slave
each day is like they’re peeling off the band aid
slowly keep it moving cuz it’s often that our plan change
we in the shadows working jobs that are cash paid
calling home with the money transfer, gotta act brave
born to stand out, now you forced to be anonymous
looking for the promised land and found false promises
we on the factory floors instead of offices
couldn’t see it from my view even if we were opposites
how can we grow if we don’t know what the composite is?
so we let the negatives go and keep it positive
this is for the newcomer, salute cuz of your hustle and hue your true colors are shining through with love at the roots of it
it be the seeds who grew up under and knew gutters who would grow and leave and keeping all of the youth covered but the shade was paid for
by living in between a low ceiling and raised floor
and willing to slave for a wage just to kick in the cage door
you fearing that we figure to take yours
here in the great north the grind of survival is second nature
profile seen as a child of a lesser maker
sweat your paper from a labor job when we came abroad
either sway the odds or you let the pressure break ya
so we better wager on the long shot
people who made it through genocide and the other side of a bomb drop
i put in work and see my status escalate
instead of separate i’d rather give it back and elevate

jasmin kaur:
sun kissed skin
almond eyes
callous covered hands and five river hearts
we traveled far from land that loved us enough to tell us to run
but we still remember the red earth, the white marble, the hazy steady skies
the saffron of our sovereignty and
the gentle quiet of the sugarcane fields that welcomed us into their embrace
long before the gunshots, before occupation wrapped our dastaran around our wrists, before the arrests and the bodies disappeared by our own rushing waters that wept
as an act of survival we found our way to a land where indigenous roots were stolen, broken, renamed and slowly reclaimed
a land where another oppressor, different, but ultimately the same, shackled our tongues, severed us from our bodies, dressed us up in the orange jumpsuit of colonial conformity
here we struggle against the hateful tides that rise up to our throats and try to settle into our lungs the way they settle everywhere else
breathlessness that demands we abandon identity or drown
it is in this ocean where we are learning how to swim, where our hearts pound and we gasp for air knowing that our mother’s shoreline is distant
it is in this ocean where our bodies intuitively tilt in the direction of home like our hearts are a collective compass and punjab is always north
