mark
look at this mess
impressive, somewhat, the talent to make such a wreck
but i digress
they’ve strayed from the plot
distracted by all of the rest

beloved, i know you can skip to the end of this
just like i know you can go back to the start
and one would think i’d be disturbed but that’d be remiss
’cause that’s the best part

cause you and i can tell this story
again and again and again
bathe in fury and feel sorry
again and again and again

and so our heroes in their grief and their fantasy
attempt a futile little jaunt
becausе they think that better that than just apathy
or еlse the guilt will always haunt
but then the wise of them say

ben, chef
hey we’ve been at this all day
and if the groundskeeper says we should go, then we go
’cause we’ve been serving these uppity f~cks for a while
and i ain’t dying to lose my soul
mark
and so with only three of them left all alone
detective, colonel and attorney
they understand that if they’re to see the end of this
they have to then complete the journey

or else they’re doomed to remember their folly
again and again and again
know they gave up on this story
again and again and again

awashed in anger, our colonel then walk away
intent in saving both his friends
and our detective follows him but soon takes a break
exhausted by the day’s events

and our attorney soon finds their vision going half~blind
one foot in the living world, one foot in the other side
they hear

void
hey, ain’t it unfair, you lost your best friend right there
hey can you hear us can you hear us can you hear us can you hear us

mark
our detective takes a moment to catch his breath
as he remembers all the times
that he has failed before and now he has failed again
guilt now overtakes his mind
cause all his friends just keep on dying
again and again and again
his job’s to keep people safe but he’s failing
again and again and again

he steels himself and tries to once again find resolve
’cause he was hired to do a job
before the party started mark called him down and told
he might be dead before the dawn

and he didn’t understand
said why not call the cops then
but mark said that he may just be his old paranoid self
what kind of friend is he then
when mark did soon end up dead?
and he’d been told he must solve it himself

he’s a man who still believes in truth and justice
who’s taken oath to hand like it still means anything in this farce of a system
nepotistic kingdom
a moral stand where jesters amoral sit on freedom
cause systems are a lie and academia is a rat race
hollywood’s a scam filled with liars trying to save face
only true fools would see the moon and think the blurring wisp of its bleeding wrists and the blade is a saving grace

meanwhile our colonel’s in his room grieving for a loss
he doesn’t quite truly grasp but he knows
that though celine is locked in, that’s not her inside
right now, she’s a monster’s clothes
he used to hear damien talk about monsters
again and again and again
he said this house made them all feel closer
again and again and again

he doesn’t even know where the mayor is right now
he hadn’t seen him locked inside
but he knows he should try to save them both from all this
and an idea comes to mind

he grew up in this old house
and an old memory comes now
or how he heard its former lady say something about how
she’s looked into every nook
had a collection of books
she was prepared to do whatever it took

and so he runs to the library winding down the staircase
wondering why everything seems to be so mundane
when usually he’d be where he wanted through a door
he counts the flights of stairs he takes then he counts some more

cause everything in life, he has solved running away
and so he runs and runs but today will be the day
when he stops running off and will run towards the fight
not knowing where he’ll get to when he reaches the light

our attorney blinks themselves to reality
over the silence of their heart
and as they realize that they’d walked themself somewhere
they get their bearings with a start

because they’d gone around this manor
again and again and again
they roamed this house investigating a murder
again and again and again

they look around and find themselves in a foreign room
littered with photos and some charts
they see their name and all the names of the party guests
strewn about like sick art

they remember what they’d seen
viewing footage on a screen
when they’d looked into the cameras hours before
the detective had been hired
before the party transpired
and he’d looked into the staff and so it seems
everyone else on the guest list

the manor
you look at the photos on the wall
you stare at your own name like all this was a game
and you’re trying to piece it all
why was there suspicion before the invitation
headlines and handwritten scrawls of all your life stories
bared before humanity
the actor’s rise to fame and all
the mayor’s election, his speech full of conviction

mark
and you tune out all the rest
past the books from obscure nooks something catches your eye
on the table, some notes in a mess
but you skim through and understand the gist of what’s passed by

a divorce

the manor
an affair

mark
and your hand shakes with pity

the manor
mark was a divorced celebrity

mark
but i don’t need your pity
didn’t ask for it so
turn your eyes to the scene as wil walks through the door

wil
attorney? you found the study. i was looking…for..
what is this? is this the detective’s work? when did he have time to ~ everyone’s been around each other since mark…he did this before mark died. he planned this

mark
he retrieves his gun

the manor, mark
when he finds his target, he aims and you stand there just stunned

wil
you planned this all

abe
has lunacy addled you so?

wil
you set this twisted game a madness from your soul

abe
and who are you to talk about madness?
you maddeningly ruined a poor man’s life for your goals!
you had an affair with your best friend’s wife
asked him for money to fund this foolish blight
you stupid fool of a man, read the papers
your selfishness nearly drove him to suicide

the manor
the detective went down right in front of your sight
foolishly, you reached for the gun with all your might
the colonel still held it and squeezed the trigger tight
and so you fell down to your demise

the manor, mark
tragedy then falls as scarlet stains the walls
the stench of blood and death cursing the manor halls
and nothing here lingers save for the regrets that we bring
save for the rage as we sing

oh no
