lirik lagu murs & dee-1 - halftime
[interlude: the company man]
halftime:
a word from the company man. it’s all happening
why is there a perception that music fans embrace a negative message before embracing a positive message?
maybe that’s what you expect from an industry founded on technology and prohibition era gangsters?
maybe it’s tied to that same reflex that keeps us gawking at car wrecks while riding down i85. that same reflex we feel every time we see something grimеy on the gram
maybe it’s becausе most of our entry points to culture comes courtesy of our big homies, and brothers, and cousins, and mothers and we can’t help but wait to be grown so we can revel in a lifestyle we weren’t yet old enough to understand?
maybe subliminal messaging and viral madness unleashes the same dopamines as well… dope
maybe through years of programming we find ourselves in a place where we subconsciously gravitate towards the dramatic because it ain’t real if it ain’t traumatic
maybe there’s a fatalistic connection between us as individuals and the surrounding universe that tells us we’re doing better if someone else is doing bad?
times change like nickels and dimes, but some things remain consistent
so what’s it say about us that we’d rather bask in pain than let positivity rain?
i don’t have the answers to these questions
