lirik lagu luke frees - st. patrick's day
the first thing i notice as i step outside is the silence
crashing ’round my ears like thunder
dissolving into the great suffocating gray sky blanket
a hundred yards ahead
someone walks toward me
it’s the same game of chicken
who will cross the street first
looks like it’s me again
things could be worse
it’s strange how it all changed so quickly
a lone car speeds up and swerves down our sleepy street
phone in one hand, latte in the other
we’re all about to die anyway
anyway, an empty bus shuttles contagious air up and down harvard street
while a coughing homeless man rubs his hands and shuffles his feet
looking for something to eat
how sweet
a man in a business suit and a surgeon’s mask hands him a card
five bucks off at five guys
now that wasn’t hard
he steps into a blinking infinity
drives off to god~knows~where
a tired man sits at the register
with stains on his fingers from counting money
he stares out into a quiet store
where cnn tells him what he’s heard before
but no one really hears anything
and no one really knows anything
and all through the city
someone’s pressed pause
on all normal living
till someone finds the cause
and patents it
and things go back to the way things was
and everyone wants change but no one does
anything about it too inconvenient
cuz the people at the top’ll do anything to stay
while people at the bottom just wish they were smarter
well times are pretty hard, let’s drink something harder
and we’ll all just say what we’re supposed to say
in the hopes that someone else’ll make it okay
i hear it gets better the louder you pray
and by the way
happy saint patrick’s day
