so to give a quick recap of the story of young samson. we begin with “manoah’s son”, “who then took a jawbone and slayed a thousand ones”, but then we see “his pride turn into concupiscence”, “and in the valley of sorek he loses his sense”, which leads to him “falling for the trap, which is track number 6, delilah’s lap. i think it’s interesting that this happened to be the 6th track on the album when the number 6 in the bible so clearly represents the imperfеction, sinfulness, and weakness of man, which pеrfectly describes the themes of this dark song veiled as a catchy, trap banger
on delilah’s lap, i wanted to modernize the events of judges 16 verses 4 through 27, where samson meets delilah and is enamored with her, then he pursues her, and the countdown clock on his divine assignment and his life begins
and so across 2 verses, i flip back and forth between the events that take place between samson and delilah in verses 4 through 21 of judges 16, and the “delilah” that me and you face today through l~st and temptation. and so it’s my goal for you and everyone who listens to this album to know that we all have a delilah in our lives that we deal with. right, i know that delilah was a physical woman in samson’s story who seduced and betrayed him, but i believe the spirit of delilah is in anyone and anything that seeks to draw your eyes away from the beauty and wholeness of christ
and i also want to mention as well that samson made the decision to travel through the valley of sorek, and put himself in a position to be enticed by sin. but as we’ll see on the last track of this album, god even used samson’s mistakes to fulfill his plans to deliver his people, israel, from the hands of the philistines. it’s a beautiful reminder to us in christ that even our mistakes and shortcomings don’t alter the plans that god has for us. and because of that, our response to god should be one of joy, thanks, and obedience, and not a life that continues in unrepentant sin
so this is track number 6, delilah’s lap
