running on empty germany’s resources dwindling
barbarossa and typhoon failed to gain anything
except the loss of life confidence and supplies
the tide of the war turning red the russians rise
the battle for the germans must change to survive
the south holds the riches to sustain their reich
the oil in the caucuses, the grain in the ukraine
the mineral rich donb-ss is now why they fight
economic gain is their focus their need
there’s really no regard for the people can’t see
1000 year reich must prevail no excuses
no surrender on the threat of execution

the russians failed to capitalize on advantages gained
they poorly mismanaged their reserves causing strain
this allowed the germans time to gather, regroup
once the russian winter lifts the offensive will resume
they gained some confidence, confidence they will need
the resolve of the people and the men breed
resentment for the germans h-tler’s plan to oppress
the russians exterminate or be serfs at best
some welcomed them as heroes this was misplaced trust
fight for mother russia not the government cause
that will spark the men to keep fighting even though
they lack all the training of their formidable foe

well the germans had a plan, plan blue
everything now focused on the south they’ll move
after weathering the storm of russian offensives
after the weather it lifts and supplies replenish

the 4th panzer along with the two 2nd armies
one hungarian and the other was from germany
would advance from kursk headed toward voronezh
a new front on the river don must be held

4th panzer now head south further down the river
they would soon be joined by the 6th army splinter
the land between the don and donets rivers
eventually joined by 1st panzer on there right flank the picture

all of these movements to create a new front on the volga
then turn south to the oil fields taking them over
the luftwaffe would again supply air support
making it hard for the russians once again such force

it doesn’t matter they still must dismantle
the stakes get higher to win the war win the battles
along every front stop the germans from advancing out
they’ll soon run out of steam without the riches from the south

the drive
the drive
the drive towards stalingrad
the drive towards stalingrad

sevastopol under siege from relentless artillery and bombing
the germans must control this key point so it’s all in
with impressive weaponry some the likes of which never seen
they lay waste to this key point in the crimea so keen
now their army is poised to keep up the fire
the russians must slow the advance or become mired

in a situation where the tables turn again
the tactics of the germans once again make a dent
on the russian front pushing them further back
towards the river volga towards the city stalingrad
the sky is no different the red air force no match
the red army will not give even though pushed back

the lead up to stalingrad was a series of mistakes and blunders
by the germans overextending pushing hard just to plunder
the resources their needing hitler decides to do this
separate the 4th army from the ranks of the 6th

this would leave the 6th army slightly vulnerable
protecting their flanks italians romania
hardly the soldiers that they were the russians put them to the test
when they launch an offensive to encircle and press

despite resources fading the germans showed their resolve
the red army in the meantime sending more troops to the line
the volga river would be their anchor they will stand
not giving an inch no surrender fight every man

the russian southeast front faced general palus and his men
along with 4th panzer they control whole don bend
by august 10th palus succeeded in pushing the red army back
but in the north the russians held on to key points steadfast
progress was slow much to hitlers chagrin
the drive to the volga is becoming worrisome
in contrast army group a reached the cacusses with ease
the russians had abadonned much of that land for the east

back by the river don the germans managed to secure a bridge head
infantry and panzers now flooded in towards the steppes
36 miles that they traversed at full speed
speerheaded by the 16th panzer they slice east
any resistance was swiftly by p-ssed or dealt with by -ssault groups
the wermacht excelled at speedy warfare oh yes they do

while palluses 6th army blitzed through the vast plane
the 4th air fleet unleashed all h-ll bombs were rained
down on stalingrad it’s a swift destruction
to pave the way for the 6th to take the city just bust in
fire consumed the smoke was bellowed up high
for all to see for miles and miles no lie
shortly after the raids elements of 16th panzer
reached the volga north of stalingrad to spread like cancer

16th panzer must endure fierce russian counter offensives
waiting for the infantry to catch up endless
6 days they held on that position
shooting at river traffic fighting hard resistance stiffened
over head the black squadrons raining terror from the skies
the red air force no match so there was no where left to hide
in the city once a proud jewel of russia
turned into a smoldering ruin of rubble

the germans wanted to encircle the 64th and 62nd
army of the russians trapped inside a salient
in front of stalingrad while the 4th panzer did there job
the 6th army in the north couldn’t break through they lost
this allowed the russians time to retreat towards the city
this mistake by the germans would prove to be costly
cause it would prolong the struggle draining more resources
this fight would be long and bl–dy between the two forces

gerneral zukhov took control of the southern forces
and began a campaign to attack the 6th army the focus
to cut them off completely attacking their flanks
reserves were sent south to begin the campaign
and to bolster up the armies of the city at the gates
fighting will be fierce and remorseless what it takes
to keep the germans out any way that they can
every square inch contested every man feels the strain

by september 13th however the germans managed to take the fight
to the russians surrounding stalingrad on three sides
supported from the air the infantry advanced
through the south of the city cautiously they advanced
cause the closer that got to the city center
the russians fought fiercer street fighting so intense
from the ruins civilians and soldiers fought back
brutal became the fight every turn could be your last

general chuykov rallied reorganized his men
to a series of mini forts designed to defend
funneling the germans into cold killing zones
the of small arms and artillery never end
corpses littered the streets not a building stayed in tact
relentless fighting for a cause that would now seem lost
the death toll rising high on both sides day by day
once again the russian winter looms large the germans face

as the battle in the city raged on and on
palus called in more troops from his flanks spurred on
by the fact the germans controlled much of the city
but the russians weren’t quitting no where to run no mystery
meanwhile zhukov and stalin planned a vast offensive
to attack the german flanks trapping the 6th in the center
most of the german troops concentrated in stalingrad
so the attack would be easy mustering all they have

november 19th the russians attacked from the flanks
artilary relentlessly crushing the axis ranks
cartoosha rockets raining down devastated the line
allowing the russians to advance easily this time
the 6th army was in peril being -ssailed on all sides
and the red air force gained dominance now over the skies
3 days laters after the offensive began soviet units from both fronts
met completw encirclement

the russian 62nd army bolstered by the triumph
now fought with more vigor in the city fight on
they had hope now of victory crushing their foe
pallus and his men were trapped now with no where to go
cause hitler denied an attempt to make a breakout
no surrender would be allowed fight to the last man now
or until they reach the steps of his command post
field marshall pallus newly appointed cant be captured alive no

the 6th army was trapped all attempts to give them aid
failed miserably and it sealed their fate
the 6th army was trapped eventually split into two
tiny pockets fighting for bits of rubble no use
on the 2nd of february paulus gave up the fight
the 6th army wiped out dead or a prisoner right
a catastrophe the germans wouldn’t recover from see
only 5000 6th army men ever return to germany
