lirik lagu djay kennedy - logic: the incredible true story in depth analysis and review
logic is a creative g*nius. after displaying his artistic talent and creativity originally through the storyline on under pressure, logic returns again to express his storytelling talents to us on the incredible true story. known for his intricate metaphors and wordplay which he uses to help convey his messages and creativity, logic gives us two storylines on this project both with a deeper meaning that takes a little bit of thinking to fully comprehend and understand
the more obvious storyline is that of a group of space travelers on a mission to find the planet “paradise” after the destruction of earth. throughout the duration of their flight they decide to pop in an old logic alb-m to keep them company, the incredible true story. the alb-m’s present and main storyline however is telling of logic’s road to success in the music industry and the self realization he had to go through to get there. throughout the story and the alb-m logic expresses true positivity and states that his true intention is to motivate his fans and listeners to never give up on their dreams, after all that’s how logic got to the point he’s at now presently
the alb-m begins with a cinematic almost perfect intro that hooks you from the beginning. this track introduces you to the space travel storyline. the main characters thomas and kai are introduced and thalia makes a returning appearance as well. we then hear a smooth transition into the next track in the story, fade away. in logic’s storyline fade away is about accepting death when you encounter it and making the best out of the life you’re living now before it hits you. this track has a super chill vibe to it and logic spits some unbelievable lyrics filled with honesty and truth about the harsh reality throughout the song. this track was a single and was very well received which was well deserved. in the space travel storyline this track leads into the next track upgrade because at the end of the song they are talking about the upgrade for thalia and her new a.i. features but it is also implied that they could be referencing logic upgrading from how he was in his under pressure era to who he is now. this skit not only refers to thalia’s upgrade but also to logic’s and it helps reinforce that logic is not the same person and artist he was before. he’s better
it is only right then for the track upgrade to begin. in this track for logic’s storyline he is explaining how he has upgraded with his success in the music industry and his success in improving himself and the way he lives his life. this track reminds me of metropolis off of his previous alb-m under pressure. with a dope beat and inspiring lyrics this track is truly a good example of how logic has upgraded. the track then transitions into a skit called white people. on the alb-m there are about 4 scenes total that highlight the space travel adventure of kai and thomas. in this scene they encounter a spaceship that seems to be inhabited by well, not human lifeforms. they decide to avoid contact with the ship and have doubts about continuing their mission but proceed anyway in their quest to reach paradise. the next track that pops up is like woah. this song was one of the singles before the project and mainly highlights how logic is looking back at how far he’s come well, like woah. this track is a personal one for logic as it’s about his reflection of the current stage he’s at in his life and seeing how far he’s come. however, this isn’t the end of the journey. in the space travel storyline kai only has one line to say to conclude this song and that is, “yeah i hope we make it to f**kin’ paradise and not die on the way there, mothaf**ka.” basically, after their encounter with the other spaceship kai is doubting their safety and can only hope they make it to paradise in one piece. this meaning can also reflect how logic is hoping one day he reaches complete happiness and gets past all the negative influences that pop into his life
the next track that follows is young jesus. another single that logic released before the alb-m dropped this track originally confused me because it didn’t really have much to do with either storyline it just kinda seemed like a dope track that logic and big lenbo decided to just murder. this is true, but after a little deep thinking and lyric -n-lyzing i think the meaning is a little deeper. the meaning logic is really trying to convey to us here is that the reason for him overcoming his struggles and hardship is because he was able to turn his life around and be focused on the good in life rather than the bad. at least that’s the case for the first verse, the last 2 verses are mainly braggadocio bars from the two ratt pack members. this isn’t bad in fact it’s dope to have a track like this not only taking us back to the old school but also a venting opportunity for logic to spit some dope bars. the next track this song feeds into is a deep and personal one, innermission. this song helps tie into both storylines. in the logic storyline this song highlights how logic is still trying to find who he really is and what is his purpose in life. in this song logic reflects on decisions and events that have happened to him in his past and how they have helped shaped who he is today. this track is one of my personal favorites because logic writes this in a way which he can really connect to his fans and explores himself and how far he has come as well, hence the name “innermission”. in regards to the space travel timeline at the end of the song there is an interview. in this interview it is between the interviewer and a young boy. the interviewer asks the young boy what he knows about the galaxy and he lists a few of our planets but then mentions paradise. you can infer that this is far into the future after our heroes have already discovered paradise and began life there. the interviewer then asks him if he had ever been to paradise and he said when he was little and he was in a spaceship with “droid ships” everywhere. this ties into the idea of the concept alb-m and takes place after paradise was already discovered. how one may interpret this interview may vary but the way i saw it was that we eventually discover other planets that can sustain human life and space travel becomes a common thing in our future
our next track on the alb-m is none other than i am the greatest. this track is similar to young jesus in the sense that logic is boasting how he believes he is the goat rapper. he is basically talking about how all of his haters opinions are irrelevant and he knows he’s the greatest and his fans are loyal and that’s all that matters. this is a dope track and a lowkey banger that is a good follow up to innermission because it’s logic’s way of proving that he recognizes how far he’s come over the course of his life and is at a point where he can really boast and express his accomplishments. this then leads into another scene from the space travel storyline as thomas and kai are in the ship and kai is playing with a rubik’s cube and solving it rather well and quickly. he then expresses to thomas that the rubik’s cube is his way of attracting women which then obviously catches thomas attention as he wants to get in on the action. this scene doesn’t have much to do with the storyline however it is a skit logic dedicated solely to one of his favorite things in the world, the rubik’s cube
we are then introduced to the next track on the project, lord willin. this song focuses on logic’s storyline and describes how logic just wants to take a second to reflect on his life and on how far he’s come. alot of people say that the song resembles childish gambino’s 3005 in style and wordplay which also contributes to how dope it is. the song has an inspiring message and beat and can appeal to pretty much anyone. the next track this feeds into is arguably the most personal and deep song on the alb-m, city of stars. in this song logic explores in the first verse his “break up” with hip hop and he basically is saying it is a goodbye to how a person should make hip hop and that hip hop really isn’t a specific genre with a specific style to it. it’s genre-bending and people are creating new and unique styles that feed into hip hop every single day. the second verse gets a little political and deals with the common issue of race in hip hop and how hard it was for logic coming up as a mixed artist to deal with the racial issues that surrounded him. this song is a very deep track that you really need to decipher each lyric and verse in order to get the full meaning. logic stated on twitter that he intentionally wrote the song this way so his listeners can interpret it anyway they want to and it doesn’t have to necessarily be about him. logic continues his story in this song about his climb to the point he’s at in the music industry and uses this song as his opportunity to reflect on his hardships and the hardships of minority rappers in hip hop
in his story logic decides to continue his deeper meaning songs with his next track stainless. in this track logic decides to vent out his frustrations regarding artists in hip hop who rap about things they haven’t lived. alot of rappers in the game will tell stories in their songs and pretend to be something they’re not rather than be themselves. logic in this song explains this very well with the harsh reality that alot of the rappers we listen to are actually rather fake. logic also takes this oppurtunity to explain that alot of the time that rappers who act “hard” or “gangster” in their songs really never lived or experienced the harsh realities of that lifestyle otherwise they would be more like logic. in my opinion this is true to an extent due to the fact that alot of rappers who have experienced true hardship don’t brag about it or be proud of it instead they are proud of overcoming it and work to inspire others to not go down the same path (logic). basically the message logic is trying to deliver to all rappers in the industry and all his fans is simply be yourself and be proud of who you are rather than living a lie. this track is a lowkey banger with it’s beat similar to “i am the greatest” and many people will also remember the second verse being rapped in a tim westwood freestyle. after this track we get another scene from the space travel story and that scene is called babel. this scene revolves around fear. both thomas and kai have been at the babel space station a long time on their quest for paradise and they have a fear that similar to the biblical story “the tower of babel” they will fail and rather than reach heaven “paradise” they will instead create a purgatory “earth”. the metaphors and references in this scene go very deep since in the story humans destroyed earth due to overconsumption of resources and pollution. both of our heroes are worried that the last remaining humans will do the same to paradise and they will never get to experience a planet like earth before it’s fall
after this intricate scene we are led into the next chapter of logic’s story, paradise. in this track similar to the topics on his previous alb-m under pressure. logic tells us about his early life growing up and the hardships he’s overcome to get to where he is now. in the first part of the song logic talks about his own struggles dealing with growing up in an impoverished community and making it in the music industry. jesse boykins iii then chimes in on the hook telling us listeners “follow me to paradise.” which i interpreted as logic telling us to overcome our struggles the same way he did and join him in the quest for paradise. it is then the second part of the song begins with a beat switch up to a less upbeat and darker undertone than the previous part of the song. through this half of the song logic expresses how people would try and hold him down and hate on him for chasing his dreams and how he struggled with growing up in harsh living conditions. however, through all the hate he has received being successful and proving his haters wrong is the best feeling and he encourages us to do the same. the song following the inspiring paradise is never been. this is a soulful track that has an uplifting tempo and vibe to it that can get anyone interested. this track continues logic’s story as he is explaining to us how much he has evolved since his younger years and has overcame his sins and temptations to become someone who is wiser and smarter than who he was before. another message logic is trying to deliver to us listeners is that the older you get the more wisdom you gain and logic is re-ssuring us that he understands how difficult immoral temptations can be but he believes we can all overcome including him. this track ends with a short outro where logic acknowledges his engineer bobby and asks what he thinks of the song and logic comes to the ultimatum that he thinks it’s good and then tells bobby to run it!
it is then that the next track run it begins after the smooth transition. run it is another sort of braggadocio track by logic except he uses this song to take a deeper and more lyrical approach to expressing how proud he is of his accomplishments and that his haters really have nothing to hate on. throughout the song logic talks about how he came from nothing and made it into something and how he really started from the bottom not only in life but also in the music industry as well. he expresses how he is always working hard to please us (his fans) and that he would never think anyone would have a song that he made in any of their playlists or listening rotations. after already leading the charts just off pre order sales i think it’s safe to say that in hip hop logic really does “run it”. following this track we get another scene from our space travel heroes kai and thomas. in this scene called lucidity, kai and thomas discuss their hopes and dreams that they have had that haven’t been possible because of the destruction of earth. they discuss that these dreams may still exist and can be achieved on the planet paradise. they explain that their lives on babel isn’t awful but they need something better…something more, and that’s what they can maybe find on paradise
it is immediately after this track that we have reached the long awaited conclusion of our story with our space traveling heroes and also the conclusion to logic’s story as well. in this song logic is explaining that he has been able to reach and connect with his fans like never before by inspiring them and uplifting them to do great things and to always follow their dreams and ambitions. towards the end of the song logic samples a quote from alan watts which preaches about how people have dreams and desires but they never chase those and instead settle for some job or career that they could care less about rather than what they really want to do. based on the inclusion of this sample we can infer that logic agrees with alan and he wants his fans to chase their dreams and to strive towards paradise the same way he has. it is then the outro cuts in by saying, “the incredible true story. and transformation of the man who saved the world.” this is the true official title of the alb-m and after we hear this bit our space travel story comes full circle and makes sense since we now know and understand that the reason many of the people on earth were able to escape the destruction and travel to babel and then hopefully one day achieve paradise. this reason is because logic who was a revolutionary influence to thomas and kai throughout the project and it is revealed here that logic was the man who saved the world and this was because his music inspired people to aspire for something more and to leave the evils of earth in the search for paradise. the song then cuts to the final scene of the alb-m which is thomas and kai finally touching down on paradise and as soon as they leave their ship they realize it is able to sustain life and it is everything they hoped for. you hear noises and thomas asks “what’s that sound?” to which you hear thalia respond, “life”
