i was 3, i only done it cause my dad done it
my parents didn’t raise me cause my nan done it
every year i’ve been alive, i knew my talent was
musical above all, that’s how the balance was

cause he never ever lied to me
i remember, my dad said

but like, cause i’m my own person
i was always gonna travel a different path to dizzee
to nick, to roll deep, to anyone
and now, we’re all solo

my friends were my worst critics
had a few bars, but they preferred t-tches
they preferred sharkeys and they preferred dylans
who could blame them? the truth was blatant
i ain’t gonna lie, before i had my own style
i was listening to precious and duplicating
for me, that’s where the skippy style originally came from
now, there ain’t an artist i can think of
that i can’t lyrically rain on
i’ve come a long way
from bedroom s-x to marlon, jermaine and andré
even though the route that was the fastest became the long way
i’m still a legend, off and on the stage
and i thank the lord, songs of praise
it could’ve been very different
