on september 27, 1983, my mom and dad, liv and jim anderson of decatur, georgia celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. i wanted to give them a very special gift on this very special occasion, and so i went into the studio and i recorded a beautiful old song called “the years fall away.” then i went to my dad, and i said, “dad, why don’t we surprise mom on your anniversary?” i said, “come, go with me to the studio. let’s take my voice off of the talking part and put your voice on.” then i went to mom, and i said, “mom, why don’t we surprise dad on your anniversary?” i said, “come, go with me to the studio and let’s put your voice over the talking part.” and so without either one of them knowing that i had talked to the other one, and with each one of them thinking that they were making an entire record for the other one, and then with a little editing magic in the studio, i was able to give them on the morning of their golden wedding day a copy of what you’re about to hear. now this was never intended to be released as a commercial record, but we were listening to it one night, and my mama said, “you know, it’s a shame to keep all of this love ourselves when there’s a lot of people out there that we probably oughta be sharing it with. and with that thought in mind, we hope you like it
